When else do you hear disco music echoing through the streets of Chinatown? On the last Saturday of April, the Grand Star Jazz Club was packed early with a hip, eastside crowd joined by the hot westside boys that like to play downtown. I had been excited about KCT’s birthday party for a while now, not only because she’s one rad individual but also the style she brings to performance and events is unmatched by many. Upon walking into the Alexandria I could immediately tell where the party was, the noise alone was a dead on indicator, easily overpowering that of the Down-N-Out. The circus theme was taken rather literally, as my sea of friends were decked out in warped circus costumes that seemed to have derived inspiration from the likes of Hunter S. Thompson & Warhol amongst others. The birthday girl was delightful as usual and the tutu dress she was wearing was coveted by all women in attendance. Gorbel’s didn’t stand a chance, as my friends took over the whole room, and I wouldn’t have expected anything less. Anyone who intended to come down for a simple drink was swarmed by the big top decadence, and from the looks and their faces they were loving it. BTW, Miss Barbie, pink definitely works for you.
