608/ ODD LAUNCH

2012_02_19
Sunday night marked the east coast launch of the online retail store ODD. at Southside. Judson Harmon, Bobby Webster, Sophia Lamar, and Rhyan Hamilton brought severeness to the evening’s festivities. DJs
Greg.K (MisShapes) and Spencer Product (Ruff Club) treated the crowd to ridiculous sounds. High points were the Whitney sing alongs that went down whenever her bangers blared (RIP, WH). Dark and fashionable was the name of the game. Pop Rocks and rock candy at table service were a tasty touch, too. Get the looks: http://odd-style.com/

603/ VANDAM

2012_02_12
Vandamn. NYC weekly Vandam at Greenhouse (the “organically conscious” club) provided ridiculously good visual interest Sunday night. Maybe the grass on this coast is greener, but my first assignment in the
City got me especially hype. So thankful for JUANITA MORE, my fellow West Coast transplant; her delicious beats had the children entranced until the wee wee hours. Fashion Week spillover, familiar faces, and
gyrating B’East Coast bodies made this packed throwback of a festa one to remember. Oh yeah, weenie and dogs came out, too. SERVE GOTHAM, SERRRVE!

255/ POP MANIFESTO

2010_10_23
On my last Saturday in the big apple, I got some drinks with Brett and managed to run into Franc Fernandez and Casey Spooner at Family Function. Much thnx to Lady Fag for being such a great host. After hanging for a bit I headed over to Brooklyn for some fun at the Pop Manifesto warehouse party. Good times.

250/ SPANK NYC

2010_10_16
Without missing a beat, I found the party the night I got into NY. Without even knowing it, old skool homie Victor Rodriguez and I had planned to be on the east coast at the same time. And to further the coincidence he was djing at both my nightlife destinations that weekend, the first being the Spank party.
The last event of theirs I attended was prematurely shut down by the NYPD, luckily this party didn’t face the same fate. The performances were solid, and the party packed – needless to say the music was on point. And the metaphorical cherry on top? – that I had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Lady Miss Kier, definitely a surreal situation.

09/ SHOUT OUT GBH

So my favorite showcase of the week was at Webster Hall for the GBH/AM ONLY showcase. I heard about the parties, and I was only too happy be shoot this event. Got to catch Shout Out Out Out Out this time around, whom I missed at SXSW. The show was fun, and it got the young folk dancing away.

08/ I LOST MYSELF IN BILLY DEE

To clarify, there was a light up sign of Billy Dee Williams holding up a Colt 45 at the Death+Taxes/Onituska Tiger party. Yes, it was genius. The event took place at Glasslands, gotta love it when the venue doubles as someone’s living quarters. Real Estate and the Japandroids played, and someone drew a portrait of me. Yes, I’m not sure why either. The venue itself was compelling enough, even without the crowd of hipsters and indie rockers. It’s as if I walked into Where the Wild Things, but I didn’t want to cry at the end. With everything placed so haphazardly you weren’t sure you want to touch, or lean on anything.
