585/ FULL FRONTAL DISCO

2012_01_07
It was another packed night for Full Frontal Disco at Akbar on Saturday night. Mr. Diaz always knows how to make sure everyone is having a good time and is thoroughly entertained. A midnight performance kept the crowds spirits high, and partying hard until last call.

424/ MUSTACHE MONDAYS

2011_05_09
After taking too long of a break from Monday nightlife in favor of sleep and television, I decided that a trip to my favorite downtown polysexual party was past due. Combining the best in music and fashion, while maintaining a an eclectic mix Mustache Mondays is a must attend if you’re in from out of town and have a taste for the sickening. The good sickening that is.
After Kiki hit the stage, the evening quickly degenerated into a walk off MC’ed by the incomparable Fade-Dra. So yeah, it was amazing.

343/ MUSTACHE

2011_01_31
After taking too long of a break from the downtown treasure that is Mustache Mondays, I returned this week to experience the splendor. With my boo Nina McNeely having an installation setup in the patio, it was a personal can’t miss evening for me.
As is typical with Nina, her piece didn’t disappoint and was appropriately fashionable and interactive; infusing some art into an already cultured party. In addition to the Mustache crew, Nacho, Joshua, Ashland, and Danny, there were many mainstays in the audience and some faces I was surprised, but happy to see. Namely the rather handsome faces of Derek Monteiro and Garrett; they do give good face.

171/ MUSTACHE FASHION

After landing on my much delayed flight back from Chicago, I headed over to La Cita, where Hi Fashion 9.99 hosted a a full on takeover at Mustache Mondays (@mustachemondays). Jen DM and team held the evening hostage, and no one seemed to mind – including myself, who was fully decked out in Warhol regalia, even had a blonde shag upon my head. Thank you Rick, for the HI FASHION makeover.
After the quick change, it was time for a shoot with a couple of sickly dressed gogos on stage, then for the main event. Jen & team killed it, and likely acquired quite a new few fans – btw, new music is currently for purchase on itunes, google that shit. Yes, that was a plug. Thanks to the fashionistas and mustache crew for having me for the night. Much love.

158/ SML

After the charitable violence, and a brief but mind altering Angelyne sighting at the Eagle of all places, I headed over to Cody Bayne and Nacho Nava’s latest offspring, the party known as SML. The bash was a variable whose who of hipsters and well, more hipsters – in other words, everyone looked good. As mentioned in a earlier post, the boys intention when starting this joint venture was to create a party for everyone, and they succeeded. With the musical range running the gamet, there was at least 1 that’s my jam moment for everyone. Be sure to come back to Akbar the last Sunday evening of every month going forward, you gotta end the sabbath on a high note, right?

149/ SML

One size does not fit all. That is the sentiment behind Cody Bayne and Nacho Nava’s latest party endevaour SmallMediumLarge. In a scene of theme specific events, the boys wanted to create something for everyone, forgoing all normative trappings of LA gay parties, most notably no gogos nor drag performances. Blasphemy? I think not. Both genetlemen are no strangers to throwing events, so this unique pairing is sure to create for an inspired evening – and people will probably be drunk, actually that’s a given.
Look forward to several surprises and rousing musical choices by resident DJs Aaron Elvis & TR/808. So after you catch some sun, or fill up on your lunch of beer please cruise on over to Akbar and play at the party for everyone. And as always, look sharp.

145/ TRANNYSHACK LA

The tranny train pulled into town from SF last weekend, and as would be expected the shenanigans ensued. ‘Circus’ would be an adequate word to describe the series of events from past Friday evening. Heklina and the other ladies from the bay joined forces with Cody Bayne (@codybayne) and a few familiar LA performers to put on a show that can only be rivaled by few.
The highlight of the evening was legend Kembra Pfahler’s performance – after seeing her I can now fully understand why so many performers look to her referentially for influence. It was also good to see the fun, friendly faces like Lina Lecaro (@L_in_A), Mario Diaz (@mariodiaz), & Nacho Nava (@mustachemondays), amongst others.
In addition to the onstage entertainment, World of Wonder’s (@worldofwonder) drunk Damiana was on hand to conduct some interesting interviews. The full Daily Freakshow episode will likely be up shortly, but you can view images from the night right now. Check below.
