118/ PRIDE IN SPACE

After spending the day on the west of LA, I headed to more familiar territory, namely Akbar for Bears in Space: Pride Edition. Though Chris was out of town, he laid the ground work for an awesome party, with special guest DJ’s Victor Rodriguez, Gant Johnson, & birthday girl Phyliss Navidad. Along with resident Nite Dog, the aforementioned kept disco infused beats playing all night long. The furries came out in full force, most still intoxicated from all the celebratory day drinking – all the better for the photos. The event was made all the more special by a rare appearance by Zackary Drucker – it’s been far too long since we’ve seen her out. On the note off appearances, Cody Bayne also swung by, and I’ve been instructed to write more about him, by him.

115/ PRIDE SUNDAY

After watching the Parade from the vantage point of Santa Monica and La Cienega I intended to make my way to the grounds. While I did, a couple hours later, I also managed to make some stops at the LASC / Diesel party and a few other bars in the general area.
Walking past LASC I saw Ken, who was running the event, and he thankfully pulled into the fete. The main event took place on the roof, while there was a small reception in-store. The top of the parking structure was AstroTurfed out with kiddie pools abounding – some filled with water and a few with just some small balls for lounging. Party-goers drank freely, while models in barely there swimsuits lounged around while chatting up the crowd. Good fashion ran a muck, but then again, wouldn’t you expect that from a Diesel party? The choice to have the event of the roof left the event feeling spacious and inviting, even though the event was filled to the brim with a line by the elevators for the majority of the party’s duration. The big surprise at this event was Kelly Rowland’s appearance, she’s adorable btw.

114/ DUKE PRIDE

Post Milkshakes, I had some Two Boots pizza on the east-side then headed back toward WeHo for Duke’s Pride extravaganza. Joshua J. was in town to celebrate the lovely Phylliss Navidad’s birthday. You may know Joshua from his weekly w/ Juanita More Booty Call or his party Big Top, or quite possibly the images that appear of him on our site. Both ladies served as special guest hosts for the evening, and we were honored to have them. Philthy’s new wig was amazing, and I couldn’t stop complimenting her all night. Though the wig was a showstopper, the highlight had to be the hot piece that decided to gogo all by herself on the back stage, all I can say is thank you. Oh yeah, and Jessica Wild was there! It was nice to catch up, so happy for all her success.
Also, while I was there bar-owner Jay, and DJ extraordinaire Nelstar climbed a tree, I’m not shitting you.

112/ NOH8 MILKSHAKE UNVEILING

Saturday evening Millions of Milkshakes played host to the launch of Russell Simmon’s NOH8 Vegan Oreo Cookie Shake. Who knew Oreo’s were vegan? This particular discovery made me rather elated. In all seriousness, it was a great gesture that this media mogul came to our support, by aiding the NOH8 campaign in our shared quest for equality. What more, he offered to match all proceeds that the shake generates this week from sales – so please get your butt over to MOM and order a shake.
After the press had completed their interviews we all headed over the festival grounds where Mr. Simmons addressed both the audiences at the Hip-Hop tent, as well as the main stage. He managed to rouse both crowds with his genuine care and concern for our movement. His authenticity was quite visible, I for one am glad for his appearance and support. Thank you sir.

108/ LA PRIDE // AN EVENING OF PRIDE

Wednesday night was our last official Pre-Pride outing, as Pride officially begins right about…now. The event took place at Eleven, and aside for the launch party for Drag Race season 2, it was the most full I have ever seen the venue. The red carpet was a mix of actors and activists, with some celebutants mixed in for fun. And though Sharon made it looking as glamorous as ever, Kelly unfortunately felt a bit under the weather and couldn’t make the party. No matter, we’ll be seeing her Sunday on a float.
The MC was spectacular, and fully decked out in leather, while the queens brought it to the stage shortly there after. This event was focused on celebration, as the crowd, everyone included, danced to top tunes spun by Victor Rodriguez and Susan in Accounting – both making West Hollywood cameos. The highlight for many was a last minute surprise arrival by the Countess Luann from the Real Housewives of New York. She was gracious and took many photos with fans, and even danced along to her current dance hit. Good fun! Let’s keep this momentum high, and bring the energy this weekend. We’ll see you on the grounds.
