460/ THE LOT

2011_06_19
Though the concept of a parking lot party isn’t exactly new, Cody Bayne managed to re-imagine it in a fresh manner. Taking over MJ’s last Sunday, in a space specific typically designated for stripper changes and sordid activity, the space was re-imagined as a playground suitable for a variety of sub-specie of hipster. The perfect place for the polysexual enthusiast to enjoy the latter half of their Father’s Day; with a variety of DJs and fellow hosts with whom I’ve been in many a compromising position with there was destined to be shenanigans in the air, and trust there was.
Word is this isn’t The Lot’s last stand.

434/ BROWN & SERVE

2011_05_20
If Friday night was indeed the end of the world, we went out in style. Celebrated by bringing the sinners and saints of LA to The MEZZ downtown for Critter Control’s Brown & Serve. Cody Bayne served as honorary judge for the the monthly runway walk offs, with Miss Rude Ness taking the title of Miss Brown & Serve for May. Victor Rodriguez and Chris Bowen switched off playing eclectic house music and some warm crescent rolls to the funky crowd. If you haven’t stopped by yet, this is a MUST for the sheltered weho socialite, as you can see how the other side of LA does couture GAY.

Q & A WITH CODY BAYNE

Having been friends with Cody for a few years now, we’ve never talked candidly about his work and process. Initially getting to know him as a promoter and eventually client, it wasn’t until later that I came to know him as a painter. And though we’ve discussed art in general terms or compared notes on other artists, this is the first time I’ve gotten to get some insight of this side to him.

Where do you derive inspiration for your work?
It varies really.
About 4 years ago in Berlin I got really inspired by the tagged walls and graffitti upon practically every building. There is something about where the need to make marks upon a wall, and in a sense say “I am here, I exist.” I find the need for what i call the “immediacy of identity” the most interesting, and then the culture of painting over this mark by authorities just as interesting.

424/ MUSTACHE MONDAYS

2011_05_09
After taking too long of a break from Monday nightlife in favor of sleep and television, I decided that a trip to my favorite downtown polysexual party was past due. Combining the best in music and fashion, while maintaining a an eclectic mix Mustache Mondays is a must attend if you’re in from out of town and have a taste for the sickening. The good sickening that is.
After Kiki hit the stage, the evening quickly degenerated into a walk off MC’ed by the incomparable Fade-Dra. So yeah, it was amazing.

410/ FULL FRONTAL

2011_04_17

Full Frontal Disco exposed itself to me. While I’m used to dancers with a lot less on, these ones tantalized with their bewitching moves. The inspired crowd kept the floor hot all night and DJ Nelstar proved Disco will never die. Gruesome twosome Cody and Mario held court and held it well. I had a friend in from out of town and was so happy he got to experience one of LA’s finest nights out! The fashion, the music, the extravaganza – FFD!
