170/ BRANDON IN SPACE

Brandon also had the luck of the draw in getting to handle Bears in Space at Akbar the weekend before last. Bringing in the friendliest of the furries, the monthly gathering is a personal favorite, well for me and a few hundred other gays in LA. While I’m sad I missed the party, the tapas dinner I had in shy town made up for it to some degree. Though the sangria and company totally made up for it. From what I hear, there were a lot of hairy dudes making out, but what else is new?

143/ BEAR BIRTHDAY

Sunday marked the anniversary of the furry hipster shenanigans, more commonly known as Bears in Space. To commemorate the event, Akbar closed off the parking lot and turned it into a full out beer bust, only problem being the lines to get said beer.
Lady Bear, who seems to be spending more time down here than in her native SF as of late, turned out a beer guzzling performance leaving the audience thirsty for more. Also on hand, was hot tranny mess Christine, and I mean that in the literal sense, not the Christian Siriano way. I haven’t seen her since Austin for SXSW, and let me tell you, it’s been way too long. She turned out two original jaw droppers, but managed to keep her business in her pants, unlike what I’m told she did at Fubar a few days prior. Chris & Nite Dog pumped out the jams, and I danced, and stayed a little bit longer than I had planned – the sign of a truly good party
I look forward to another year of drunken furries. Thnx for the memories.

132/ SUMMER TRAMP [2]

As you may have already realized, I missed the Bear invasion of Summer Tramp this past Sunday. Aaron (@AaronJayYoung) was on hand to capture all the moments, and from looking at all the photographs of my friends, I’m quite disappointed at the amazing time I missed. Good friends Daisy O’Dell (@daisyodell) & Chris Bowen, amongst others, were on hand to dish out the hits, while Jefferson Hendrick handled hosting duties. Fellow RB photog Tiffany Yee (@yeet) also came out to play with a few of our mutual friends, only adding to how crushed I am I missed this fete. If I could have been in 2 places at once, trust me, I would have done so on Sunday. Andres sure does know how to throw one helluva party.
Only part aspect I’m glad I missed out on was wart on society, Perez Hilton’s appearance. He makes me shudder, but glad James St. James and the WOW crew snagged an interview. I look forward to the Daily Freak Show segment boys!

118/ PRIDE IN SPACE

After spending the day on the west of LA, I headed to more familiar territory, namely Akbar for Bears in Space: Pride Edition. Though Chris was out of town, he laid the ground work for an awesome party, with special guest DJ’s Victor Rodriguez, Gant Johnson, & birthday girl Phyliss Navidad. Along with resident Nite Dog, the aforementioned kept disco infused beats playing all night long. The furries came out in full force, most still intoxicated from all the celebratory day drinking – all the better for the photos. The event was made all the more special by a rare appearance by Zackary Drucker – it’s been far too long since we’ve seen her out. On the note off appearances, Cody Bayne also swung by, and I’ve been instructed to write more about him, by him.

83/ BEAR CLIMAX

Taking Saturday night off from “working” to have a drunken adventure with Vang was truly a genius move, though the lack of photographs leaves things permanently fuzzy, it’s probably better that. Though, I did get to spend the night at the DTLA Standard and raid a minibar! The stuff of dreams. This was my one break from the great hipster bear weekend of 2010, now back to the furries.
Sunday after spending some quality time with Momma Ayala I went to celebrate with everyone’s favorite den mother, Lady Bear. She made a rare, non scheduled appearance at Chris Bowen’s Bears in Space. Given her presence, the boys all felt a little less guilty getting boozed up instead of spending the evening with their mums. Great job in turning out another awesome party Kevin & Chris, memories sold separately, or rather soberly.

78/ HIPSTER BEAR WEEKEND

Once in a great while, the stars and Critter Control align, and Cub Scout happens to occur in the same weekend as Bears in Space. This weekend, happens to be one of those momentous occasions. Expect to have a blast with these fashionable furries as you dance the night away to top notch tunes spun by the Critter Control masterminds, Victor and Chris. Though we may be low on actual bears, there’s more than enough fuzz to go around. & as always, we’ll be handling the photo coverage – see you then.

55/ PRE-COACHELLA WEEKEND

To begin with please excuse the construction as I transfer over from blogger to wordpress. I don’t intend to create a mess, it’s just something that comes naturally to me.
The weekend before Coachella was jam-packed with events. It was good practice for what is likely to be a pleasantly overwhelming weekend. First off, after being on-set all day I stopped by Cody Bayne’s art opening at Skingraft. I’ve seen photographs of his work, typically on facebook, and to see the pieces in person proves that the photos due them no justice. I highly recommend stopping by before May 5th when the show comes down – do it!

39/ RHONDA IN SPACE

Just landed a few hours ago in Austin, and before I engulf myself in endless amounts of green beer I wanted to recap the party trifecta of the past weekend. The order of events was as follows: Rhonda on Saturday, Bears in Space on Sunday, & Mustache Mondays on, well you know when.
The more one attends Rhonda, the more obvious it is that she truly ruins lives. Well at least the next Sunday morning, and hopes of doing anything productive later in the day. With a line up the stairs all night, El Cid was jam-packed by midnight – as would be expected. Tim Sweeney and Mike Simonetti kept the crowd entranced, as people kept fighting for space on the stage to shake it. & as always Gregory’s outfit was more than visually arresting. We kept the party going past the time change and until the sun came up, through several after party stops — gotta thank Dirty Dave for teaching me the art of the party slap.
