Bears, cubs, and otters, oh my! Two years and going strong! Sunday proved that summer is in full force with the anniversary afternoon lot party and beer bust of “Bears In Space” at Akbar. Guest DJ’s Bus Station John, Mike Trombley, and Scott Zacharias kept the afternoon blazin, with resident DJ’s Nitedog and Chris Bowen taking things into the night. No anniversary is complete without performances by Jackie Hell, Phyliss Navidad, Rahab, Honey Bee, and of course, Miss Barbie-Q. This is hands down the best way to spend a Sunday summer afternoon.

Akbar was packed to the brim with furry goodness this weekend. There’s something comforting about not being able to make your way from one end of a bar to the other. Impresario Chris Bowen had the bears, cubs, and appreciaters shaking what their mamas gave them all night. I especially loved the gymnastic isolations of one little
dancer! Thanks again Chris, for introducing me to Dolly’s “Here You Come Again.” After a long crazy weekend, Bears in Space is the perfect place to wind it up again and get ready to sail into your week!

The dancing bear cookie party brought out the big guns on Sunday with a special set by My Cousin Roy, the creative force behind WURST MUSIC COMPANY, NYC. While I was in bed, heavily medicated, Brandon held court and snapped the wild things in their natural habitat. Given that it was Valentine’s eve, it’s understandable that I heard there were fair amount of critters getting their mack on.

While I went to Bears in Space last weekend, I didn’t handle the photog duties. Given that Cory had come into town to visit me for the weekend, and that I was rather occupied with work the day prior, I took the day off from all aspects of work. Thankfully for me, I’ve got a great staff and Jake was able to capture the memories, or rather the blackouts. It was the perfect way to spend his last night here, with booze, bears, and Garage Pizza.

Chloe Sevingy took time off from her new standup career to host the event, which included balloons coming out of backsides and topless trannies. Sometimes I am reminded that my life functions as a live action cartoon, talking animals included.
