516/ MICKYS

2011_08_29
After spending the better part of the evening celebrating David Cooley’s birthday at the Abbey, along with seemingly half the cast of Dancing with the Stars. Kevin and I strolled across the street to say hi Marco, and some other WOW crew members celebrating wrapping on RuPaul’s Drag Race at Micky’s. Thankfully Thairin managed to snake my camera away as soon as I got there, and took the initiative to get some snaps.
While a barrage of people were clamoring for photos with diamond-crowned queen Raja, Ongina’s take on country stole the show in my opinion. Taylor Swift would have been proud.

511/ BOY’S ROOM

2011_08_26
Last night’s all-star Stiletto drag show at the Executive Suite in Long Beach held the audience captive and captivated. Ongina opened the show, and in-between numbers by the other girls she hosted and harassed the guests, all in love and jest of course. Aside from the reigning queen of lady-boy, also on hand were Raven, Shannel, Pandora Boxx, Tammie Brown, and a special appearance by latin spice Yara Sofia – quite the line up of queens.
After the scheduled set, the stage quickly turned over into a dance floor as the boys got sweaty and slutty under the cover of fog. All the while the ladies maintained the face and composure downstairs while meeting with fans.
Not having been to the venue in something like 5 years, the best way to return was with some amazing fake-lady friends.

Live action Ambiguously Gay Duo with Jon Hamm & Jimmy Fallon, you win SNL. Seriously, Jon Hamm could be ambiguously gay with anyone and I’d watch.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

And with the release of these new character trailers my nerd anticipation for this movie grows. After the catastrophe that was X-MEN: The Last Stand, I’m hoping that the mythology that was my childhood can be rebuilt properly in a cinematic fashion.

DIAMOND CROWNED QUEEN

While it seems to be the current trend for freshly famous reality show contestants to release singles that rely heavily on the effects of auto-tune (think Housewives), this is not one of those occasions. Though fresh off her win on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Raja (Sutan Amrull) has been around the block and has ability to produce something proper.
With a taste level nothing short of sickening the anticipation for a listen was already high when news broke of her impending song release, but after learning that the production team was comprised of Josh Peace and Eddie Amador
the release date couldn’t have come fast enough.
“The intention behind the song was to give the world a real taste of Raja. Not some typical RuPaul imitator, but someone with his own vision and own flare for style, fashion and music. It is intentionally aggressive and quite sexual in nature. Just like his performance on Drag Race, his music will be anything but typical.” – explains co-producer, Josh Peace
With hypnotic beats and Miss Kitten feel it seems that the new queen on the block achieved her goal, that being “music to fuck to! Or listen to at the gym. Or music to fuck to at the gym!” Sex, it’s what’s for dinner.
A listen after the jump.

LEIGHTON MEESTER

…is totally the new Rachel Bilson and I’m okay with that. I’m just hoping she doesn’t end up doing ice cream commercials and dating a moderately famous actor only to function as his beard. Just saying, but at least neither is Mischa Barton. In any capacity, I’m quite taken with Leighton.
Then again, Rachel Bilson could be the future Katie Holmes? Hmmm.

BACK TO THE 80s

If you couldn’t tell, I’m a fan of Liz Lee and her MTV reality serial My Life as Liz. Though there’s an obviously scripted element to the reality, there is a genuine like-ability to the characters which has been vacant from MTV’s programing schedule as of late. And with minimal female role models on the network, given that most of them have taken to exploiting their teenage pregnancies or drinking into oblivion, it’s nice to see someone on the channel that you wouldn’t expect on TMZ later that afternoon. Plus, in moments like in the clip after the jump, it’s truly adorability at it’s best. Oh, post-adolescent heartache.
