426/ THE BIG PENIS BOOK 3D

2011_05_11
Gogo dancers atop tables in the chichi Taschen Beverly Hills bookstore, while Chi Chi LaRue spun the latest pop hits could only mean one thing – the release of The Big Penis Book in 3D. After checking the party and the packages out, Jeremy and I ran into a few familiar faces including Mr. Black hosts Lenora Claire & the origianl ass himself Luke Nero. Yet, somehow managed to miss the people we intended to meet-up with.
Shortly thereafter the crowd got to be a little much, so we headed over to Stripper Circus to conduct a business meeting, we ooze class.

/new piece from the genius mind of Nina McNeely and company; description of collective below:
WIFE is a collective of three l.a based artists: Kristen Leahy, Jasmne Albuquerque, and Nina McNeely. Our shows consist of live contemporary dance interacting with projected animations. All the choreography, concepts, and animations are created by WIFE. We also collaborate with local costume designers and musicians including danish designer MoonSpoon Saloon, Robbie Williamson (We are The World), Megan Gold (We are The World), Dorian Wood, Hecuba, Oscar Santos (Sister Mantos), and Ryan Granich (9d9).

YOUTH

Having had lunch at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs and spying several hipsters lounging by the pool, I was reminded of this photo set I shot a few years back. And while I wouldn’t consider the included images as art and rather an exercise in aesthetic, I’ve filed this post under that category for ease.
Since these were taken at the Sandpiper Motel in Costa Mesa, I was going for a grimier look, the association with Palm Springs is a little odd, though the hipsters triggered something in me. Something about the temporality and disposability of youth and beauty has always interested me in relation to photography in that your capturing an instant that cannot be replicated, despite trying.
And with that I’m looking forward to making new work.

APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING

“My work is like watching a Disney movie which slowly turns into violent pornography.” – Antony Micallef
/the artists behind the inspiration for my first tattoo, years ago. A more detailed explanation of his work at a later date, but at nearly 1AM, I just felt like sharing these images now.

281.5/ SHITS&GIGGLES

2010_11_19
The glory that is Shits&Giggles returned yesterday. Sadly without Victor Rodriguez, but Chris definitley held down the musical fort with the help of SF favorite Husband. The lovlely ladies of Drag Race Tammie Brown & Venus DeLite graced the stage; along with performances by S&G vet Phyliss Navidad and Leopold the entertainment value was def. high. Guys took their clothes off here too – nudity, acceptable everyone, well when appreciated.
I love you my monthly home away from home. xxxo

280/ OBSCENE INTERIORS

2010_11_18
Friend Justin Jorgensen asked me to shoot his book turned opera this past week and I happily obliged. Going into it I wasn’t too sure what to expect given his design background, but when I got to the newsstand and found the minimalist approach, well except the giant harp, I was surprised. Yes, the opera occurred at a newsstand – genius, I know. Given the setup people were allowed to focus on the humor and intelligence of the words being sung by the mezzo soprano, good move Justin.
After the art and humor, we all headed over to Fubar some good old-fashioned Big Fat Dick. Evidence below.

69/ FULL FRONTAL

When else do you hear disco music echoing through the streets of Chinatown? On the last Saturday of April, the Grand Star Jazz Club was packed early with a hip, eastside crowd joined by the hot westside boys that like to play downtown. The gentlemen of Sweaty Sundays treated guests to two outdoor performances as well. Wearing some rugged, Brokeback Mountain-inspired outfits, the first group gave their folksy, modern performance to America’s A Horse With No Name, with Full Frontal Disco’s Mario Diaz joining in as well. The second was a glamorous and fierce number led by Maurice Harris. Maurice’s enchanting yellow fan was a most appropriate accessory for a night out in Chinatown.
