Inside a group of LA’s most eclectic and manicured men, women and in-betweens, have amassed a crowd that mimics the English blitz kids of the early 80′s (think Boy George) and the dance embellishments of LA’s own krumpers and clowns (think LaChapelle’s “RIZE”). But these kids do it with their own funk and grace that sets them apart from any other club scene I have been to in my 26 years in LA. I fully believe, that if we embrace this event and this scene, we have a brand new New Romanticism on our hands. The creators of Runway have intelligently gathered not one name, but over 10 of the most recognizable and interesting faces of young gay LA.

Queens like Rude Ness and Miss Honey Bee are introducing us to ingenues like Madë Beaütiful with her merlot complexion and Ernie Omega whose coned costume should have included caution tape. Ryan Burke, whose epic photos have expertly marketed the night, continues to impress with his avant-garde style. Sir James and Joshlynn FeelMmore showed how to werk a catwalk while The Unicorns and Cherie Lily performed for the huge audience. You know this is a night to be reckoned with when competing promoters showed up to survey and week two is already featuring the immortal Amanda Lepore. My suggestion is to jump on this Saturday party before pre-sales dominate tickets. And when you show up, don’t hold back, bring out your inner self, change your gender for a night, put on eyeliner for the first time, dance your ass off and thank your hosts for merging self-expression and nightlife in a way I assure you’ve never seen.
